Jason Driver is a music producer, mix engineer, multi-instrumentalist, and lifelong bassist whose perspective was shaped on stages, in studios, and through decades of helping artists turn ideas into finished records.
His approach combines musical instinct, technical experience, honest communication, and respect for the identity of every artist he works with.
ROOTS IN THE OZARKS
Jason grew up near Oark, Arkansas, in a remote corner of the Ozark Mountains. With no television and few modern distractions, music, books, and imagination filled the space. His father’s record collection, the family piano, and the sound of albums played loudly at home helped establish a deep connection to music long before it became a profession.
After discovering the bass, that connection became a direction. Jason left the University of Arkansas in 1990 to pursue music seriously—beginning a path that would take him from Arkansas to Kansas City, Los Angeles, Portland, and eventually back home.
FROM WORKING MUSICIAN TO PRODUCER
After several years playing and recording in Arkansas and Kansas City, Jason moved to Los Angeles in 1999 to pursue a professional career in music. By 2002, he had left his job at Guitar Center Hollywood and was supporting himself entirely through performing, teaching, session work, and recording.
Those years shaped the producer he would become. Working with musicians from many backgrounds taught him how to communicate clearly, adapt quickly, and recognize what a song needs beyond the notes being played. In 2005, he opened Driver Recording, bringing his experience as a working musician fully into the studio.
BUILDING STUDIOS AND CREATIVE COMMUNITIES
Jason’s next chapter took him to Portland, Oregon, where he spent fourteen years producing, recording, mixing, and collaborating across a wide range of projects. He owned Fur Vault PDX from 2012 to 2019 and later became co-owner of B-Side Studios, helping complete its buildout and develop it into a working creative space.
During this period, Jason also co-produced Sessions from the Box, a live-performance and interview series that documented well over one hundred artists in studios, churches, rooftops, and other locations throughout Portland. The experience expanded his work beyond traditional recording and reinforced something he already understood: capturing a meaningful performance begins with making artists feel heard, prepared, and comfortable enough to take creative risks.
COMING FULL CIRCLE
After fourteen years in Portland, Jason returned to Northwest Arkansas and established his current production studio. Today, he works with artists locally and remotely, guiding projects from early demos and arrangement decisions through recording, production, mixing, and final delivery.
That full-circle journey has given him an unusually broad perspective. He understands the artist’s vulnerability, the musician’s instincts, and the producer’s responsibility to keep the larger vision in focus. Whether he is shaping an arrangement, playing an instrument, guiding a performance, or refining a mix, the goal remains the same: preserve what makes the artist distinctive while helping the music become everything it can be.

For Jason, production is not about imposing a signature sound or following a formula. It is about listening closely, asking the right questions, and making choices that serve the emotional center of the music. Technology, technique, and experience all matter—but only when they help the song communicate more clearly and powerfully.
